"It may be Legal,
                    but is it Right?"

David is licensed to practice law in Texas and Tennessee (inactive in Pennsylvania). According to the "law", he may advertise his availability to work in any area of the law so long as he is competent, becomes competent, or associates with another attorney who is competent. Because his expertise is in the areas of business, alternative dispute resolution, mediation, collaborative law, and related fields, he has chosen to limit his practice. David does not advertise his availability for cases concerning personal injury, criminal matters, divorce, or child custody.

It may be legal for David to claim to be a "general practitioner", but it is not right for his clients.

Practical Experience

David Calkins has extensive experience advising executives, providing legal and business counsel and managing business organizations. He successfully bridges the gap between Business and traditional Legal services by balancing the protection of legal interests with the achievement of business initiatives. He has maximized revenues, reduced costs, and mitigated risks on transactions, on-going relationships, and operations.

In his previous management roles, he created centers of excellence at the core of the business and managed teams of legal and marketing professionals. He is an avid proponent of the use of Collaborative Law in the settlement of commercial disputes where on-going relationships are important. He is a trained mediator (holding the necessary certificate for court appointment) and a workplace reconciliation agent. His career path includes a tour of duty as a Special Agent of the FBI as well as a licensed securities broker dealing in stocks, bonds, commodities, and insurance.

David is a home improvement, residential remodeling and energy conservation enthusiast. Because of these personal interests and skills, he has been able to assist "green" start-ups and contractors with business plans and legal issues.

David typically works for a single company client, however, when not so engaged, his office is in Richardson, TX from which he serves clients in Dallas County, Collin County, Tarrant County, Denton County, and Rockwall County. He also counsels larger organizations and supports Collaborative Law education on a nationwide basis.
